Prelude: (6:15pm)

Te Deum in F John Ireland

We praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting. To thee all angels cry aloud, the heavens, and all the powers therein. To thee Cherubin and Seraphin continually do cry: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.”

The glorious company of the apostles praise thee. The goodly fellowship of the prophets praise thee. The noble army of martyrs praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee: The Father of an infinite majesty: thine honourable, true, and only Son; also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the virgin’s womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood. Make them to be numbered with thy saints in glory everlasting.

O Lord save thy people and bless thine heritage. Govern them and lift them up forever. Day by day we magnify thee; and we worship thy name ever world without end. Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin. Lord, have mercy upon us. O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us, as our trust is in thee. Lord, in thee have I trusted, let me never be confounded.

Give Us the Wings of Faith James Whitbourn

Give us the wings of faith to rise within the veil, and see the saints above, how great their joys, how bright their glories be. We ask them whence their victory came; they, with united breath, ascribe their conquest to the Lamb, their triumph to his death. They marked the footsteps that he trod, his zeal inspired their quest, and following their incarnate God, they reached the promised rest.

Hymn: Christ Triumphant, Ever-Reigning Guiting Power

Michael Saward, John Barnard

Prayer of Confession

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your unfailing love. According to Your great compassion, blot out our transgressions. Wash away all our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sin. Against You, You only, have we sinned and done what is evil in Your sight. Wash us, that we may be whiter than snow, for a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Restore us to fellowship with You, that we may walk in the full assurance of Your promises, and in the freedom of knowing that You care for us and have brought us to Yourself by the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose strong name we pray. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Acts 10:43

To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Hymn 291: See, the Conqueror Mounts in Triumph Rustington

Confession of Faith: Westminster Larger Catechism, question 53

Question: How was Christ exalted in His ascension?
Answer: Christ was exalted in His ascension, in that having after His resurrection often appeared unto and conversed with His apostles, speaking to them of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God, and giving them commission to preach the gospel to all nations, forty days after His resurrection, He, in our nature, and as our head, triumphing over enemies, visibly went up into the highest heavens, there to receive gifts for men, to raise up our affections thither, and to prepare a place for us, where He Himself is, and shall continue till His second coming at the end of the world.

Offertory: O Clap Your Hands John Rutter

O clap your hands together all ye people: O sing to God with the voice of melody. For the Lord is high and to be feared: He is the great King upon all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us: and the nations under our feet. He shall choose out an heritage for us: even the worship of Jacob whom He loved. God is gone up with a merry noise: and the Lord with the sound of the trump. O sing praises, sing praises unto our God: O sing praises, sing praises unto our King. For God is the King of all the earth: Sing ye praises with understanding.
