Hymn 163: At the Name of Jesus King's Weston

Prayer of Confession

God of justice and mercy, we confess we do not know the extent of our sin, nor have we fully comprehended the immensity of Your grace. We are quick to accuse others, but too often excuse ourselves. We have not been patient as You have been with us. Forgive us, Lord, for how unloving we can be. We ask for the fruit of your Holy Spirit; we ask that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control would characterize our lives. Please make us more and more like Christ, for the sake of Your glory and kingdom we pray. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Titus 3:4–7

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Illumination

Hymn 251: Beneath the Cross of Jesus St. Christopher

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 57

Question: Which is the fourth commandment?
Answer: The fourth commandment is, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
