Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 111: This Is My Father's World Terra Beata

Prayer of Confession

Most holy and merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature which is prone to evil and slothful in good, and all our shortcomings and offenses. You alone know how often we have sinned: in wandering from Your ways, in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. O Lord, have mercy upon us, who are ashamed and sorry for all the ways we have displeased You. Teach us to hate our errors; cleanse us from our secret faults, and forgive our sins, for the sake of Your dear Son. And O most holy and loving Father, help us, we pray, to live in Your light and walk in Your ways, according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: 1 Timothy 2:5–6

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Illumination

Hymn 534: O for a Closer Walk with God Beatitudo

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 49.

Question: Which is the second commandment?
Answer: The second commandment is, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and showing mercy to thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."
