Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 225: Once in Royal David's City Irby

Prayer of Confession

Merciful Father, forgive us for not keeping our minds fixed on you. We are often controlled by the wisdom of our time, rather than wholly by your Word. Our thoughts are held captive by our sinful affections, and we are surrounded by temptations which aim to satisfy them. At times we act impulsively, not waiting for your timing. Other times we are stubborn and unwilling to do your bidding. May your Holy Spirit guide us into all truth, and lead us in the way of Christ. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Galatians 4:4–5

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Questions: What is forbidden in the first commandment?
Answers: The first commandment forbids the denying, or not worshiping and glorifying, the true God as God, and our God; and the giving of that worship and glory to any other, which is due to Him alone.

Sacrament of the Lord's Supper

The Sursum Corda (Lift up your hearts)

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to the Lord!
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
It is right and good and a joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks unto You, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God. Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious Name; evermore praising You, and saying:

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.”
