Invocation

Hymn 716: Sing to the Lord of Harvest Wie Lieblich Ist Der Maien

Prayer of Confession

Holy God, Your steadfast love is great to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds. You sent Your Son to restore us to Your image, to reflect Your character and live according to Your Word. Lord, we confess that we strive against Your will for us. We are so accustomed to satisfying our desires and looking out for our own interests that we do not hearken to Your leading and willfully transgress Your commands. May Your Spirit grant us the mind of Christ, whose food was to do Your will. Turn our hearts to You, that we might love You with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: 1 John 1:8–9

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Illumination

Scripture Reading: Mark 10 (pew Bible p. 845)

Hymn 125: Let All Things Now Living Ash Grove

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, questions 43–44

Questions: What is the preface to the Ten Commandments and what does it teach us?
Answers: The preface to the Ten Commandments is in these words, I am the Lord your God, who have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. The preface teaches us, that because God is the Lord, and our God, and Redeemer, therefore we are bound to keep all His commandments.
