Prelude: O Divine Redeemer Charles Gounod

Andrew Stump, violin; Aaron Patterson, organ

Ah! Turn me not away, receive me, tho’ unworthy. Hear thou my cry, behold, Lord, my distress! Answer me from Thy throne, haste Thee, Lord, to mine aid, Thy pity show in my deep anguish! Let not the sword of vengeance smite me, tho’ righteous Thine anger, O Lord! Shield me in danger, O regard me! On Thee, Lord, alone will I call. O divine Redeemer, I pray Thee, grant me pardon and remember not my sins! Forgive me. Night gathers ‘round my soul; fearful, I cry to Thee; come to mine aid, O Lord! Haste Thee, Lord, to help me. Save me, Lord, in Thy mercy. Help me, my Savior.

Call to Worship

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

O God, Your Word is a lamp for our feet and a light to our path. We confess that we have loved the darkness. We are fascinated by its intrigues, take fellowship with its members, and find there a place to hide our sin from others. Open our eyes, Lord. By Your light let us see light. May Your Spirit expose our sin, so we might be clothed in Christ's righteousness, and truly live for Your glory. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Colossians 1:13–14

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Invocation

Hymn 115: All Creatures of Our God and King Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Responsive Reading: Psalm 51 (pew Bible p. 474)

Gloria Patri Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
