Invocation

Hymn 181: We Come, O Christ, to You Darwall

Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, we praise You because Your word is truth, and Your faithfulness endures forever. Forgive us, Lord, for we are as shifting sand before You. Our thoughts and actions reveal our inconsistency: the same mind meditates on Your Word yet seeks worldly wisdom; with the same mouth we bless You and curse others; our hearts long for You but lust after lesser loves. O God, help us, and be merciful to us. Save us from a divided loyalty, and grant that we may serve You each day in newness of life, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Isaiah 43:1-3

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Illumination

Hymn 460: Amazing Grace! Amazing Grace

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 91

Question: How do the sacraments become effectual means of salvation?
Answer: The sacraments become effectual means of salvation, not from any virtue in them, or in him that does administer them; but only by the blessing of Christ, and the working of His Spirit in them that by faith receive them.
