Prelude: Intermezzo, Op. 117 No. 2 Johannes Brahms Bob Yang, piano

Call to Worship: Psalm 32:1–2, 5, 11

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Doxology Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Invocation

Hymn 127: With Songs and Honors Sounding Loud St. Magnus

Text: Isaac Watts (1719)

With songs and honors sounding loud address the Lord on high;
over the heav'ns he spreads his cloud, and waters veil the sky.

He sends his show'rs of blessing down to cheer the plains below;
he makes the grass the mountains crown, and corn in valleys grow.

His steady counsels change the face of the declining year;
he bids the sun cut short his race, and wintry days appear.

His hoary frost, his fleecy snow, descend and clothe the ground;
the liquid streams forbear to flow, in icy fetters bound.

He sends his word and melts the snow; the fields no longer mourn;
he calls the warmer gales to blow, and bids the spring return.

The changing wind, the flying cloud, obey his mighty word;
with songs and honors sounding loud praise ye the sovereign Lord.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: John 21:1–14

1 After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. 9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Multilingual Prayer

Hymn 324: Christ is Coming! Neander

Text: John R. MacDuff (1853)

Christ is coming! Let creation from her groans and travail cease;
let the glorious proclamation hope restore and faith increase;
Christ is coming! Christ is coming! Come, Thou blessed Prince of Peace.

Earth can now but tell the story of thy bitter cross and pain;
she shall yet behold thy glory, when thou comest back to reign:
Christ is coming! Christ is coming! Let each heart repeat the strain.

Long thine exiles have been pining, far from rest, and home, and thee;
but, in heav'nly vestures shining, they their loving Lord shall see:
Christ is coming! Christ is coming! Haste the joyous jubilee.

With that blessed hope before us, let no harp remain unstrung;
let the mighty advent chorus onward roll from tongue to tongue:
Christ is coming! Christ is coming! Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come!

Hymn 342: Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation Regent Square

Text: Latin Hymn (7th Century)

Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone,
chosen of the Lord and precious, binding all the church in one;
holy Zion’s help forever and her confidence alone.

All that dedicated city, dearly loved of God on high,
in exultant jubilation pours perpetual melody;
God the One in Three adoring in glad hymns eternally.

To this temple, where we call thee, come, O Lord of hosts today:
with thy wonted loving-kindness hear thy people as they pray;
and thy fullest benediction shed within its walls alway.

Here vouchsafe to all thy servants what they ask of thee to gain,
what they gain from thee forever with the blessed to retain,
and hereafter in thy glory evermore with thee to reign.

Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son,
laud and honor to the Spirit, ever Three and ever One,
One in might, and One in glory, while unending ages run.

Benediction
