Prelude (6:20pm)

Te Deum Collegium Regale Herbert Howells

Tenth Church Choir

We praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting. To thee all angels cry aloud, the heavens, and all the powers therein. To thee Cherubin and Seraphin continually do cry: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.”

The glorious company of the apostles praise thee. The goodly fellowship of the prophets praise thee. The noble army of martyrs praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee: The Father of an infinite majesty: thy honourable, true, and only Son; also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ. Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the virgin’s womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood. Make them to be numbered with thy saints in glory everlasting.

O Lord save thy people and bless thine heritage. Govern them and lift them up forever. Day by day we magnify thee; and we worship thy name ever world without end. Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin. Lord, have mercy upon us. O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us, as our trust is in thee. Lord, in thee have I trusted, let me never be confounded.

Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 274: Thine Be the Glory Maccabaeus

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, you have raised Jesus from the grave and crowned him Lord of all. We confess that we have not bowed before him or acknowledged his rule in our lives. We have gone along with the way of the world and failed to give him glory in all things. Forgive us and raise us from sin, that we may be your faithful people, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, who rules the world and is head of the church, his body. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Acts 5:30–32

The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Illumination

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 43:1–7 (pew Bible, p. 603)

Hymn 276: Up from the Grave He Arose Christ Arose

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 31

Question: What is effectual calling?
Answer: Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and renewing our wills, he does persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel.
