Hymn 80: Lord, with Glowing Heart I'd Praise Thee Ripley Text: Frances Scott Key (1817)

Lord, with glowing heart I'd praise thee for the bliss thy love bestows,
for the pard'ning grace that saves me, and the peace that from it flows.
Help, O God, my weak endeavor; this dull soul to rapture raise;
thou must light the flame, or never can my love be warmed to praise.

Praise, my soul, the God that sought thee, wretched wand'rer far astray;
found thee lost, and kindly brought thee from the paths of death away.
Praise, with love's devoutest feeling, him who saw thy guilt-born fear,
and, the light of hope revealing, bade the blood-stained cross appear..

Praise thy Savior God that drew thee to that cross, new life to give,
held a blood-sealed pardon to thee, bade thee look to him and live.
praise the grace whose threats alarmed thee, roused thee from thy fatal ease;
praise the grace whose promise warmed thee, praise the grace that whispered peace.

Lord, this bosom's ardent feeling vainly would my lips express;
low before thy footstool kneeling, deign thy suppliant's pray'r to bless.
Let thy love, my soul's chief treasure, love's pure flame within me raise;
and, since words can never measure, let my life show forth thy praise.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: John 15:1–8

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

Hymn 189: Jesus Loves Me, This I Know Jesus Loves Me

Text: Anna Warner (1859)

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so;
little ones to him belong, they are weak but he is strong.

(Refrain)
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me, he who died heaven's gates to open wide;
he will wash away my sin, let his little child come in. (Refrain)

Jesus loves me, loves me still, though I'm very weak and ill;
from his shining throne on high comes to watch me where I lie. (Refrain)

Jesus loves me, he will stay close beside me all the way:
if I love him, when I die he will take me home on high. (Refrain)

Sermon Passage: Galatians 5:13–15

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

Hymn 261: What Wondrous Love Is This Wondrous Love American Folk Hymn

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb, I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme, I will sing!

And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on,
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on;
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing and joyful be,
and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on,
and through eternity I'll sing on!
