Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire.

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Hymn 44: How Great Thou Art O Store Gud Text: Stuart K. Hine (1949)

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands hath made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed;

Refrain

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art, how great thou art!

When thro' the woods and forest glades I wander,
I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; (Refrain)

But when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin; (Refrain)

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art. (Refrain)

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: John 9:24–34

24 So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.” 25 He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” 26 They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” 27 He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” 28 And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.” 30 The man answered, “Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. 32 Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” 34 They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.

Hymn 183: Awake, My Soul, in Joyful Lays Loving-Kindness Text: Samuel Medley (1782)

Awake, my soul, in joyful lays, and sing your great Redeemer's praise.
He justly claims a song from me, his loving-kindness is so free.
Loving-kindness, loving-kindness, his loving-kindness is so free.

He saw me ruined in the fall, yet loved me not withstanding all,
and saved me from my lost estate, his loving-kindness is so great.
Loving-kindness, loving-kindness, his loving-kindness is so great.

Through mighty hosts of cruel foes, where earth and hell my way oppose,
he safely leads my soul along, his loving-kindness is so strong.
Loving-kindness, loving-kindness, his loving-kindness is so strong.

So when I pass death's gloomy vale, and life and mortal pow'rs shall fail,
O may my last expiring breath his loving-kindness sing in death.
Loving-kindness, loving-kindness, his loving-kindness sing in death.

Then shall I mount, and soar away to the bright world of endless day;
there shall I sing, with sweet surprise, his loving-kindness in the skies,
Loving-kindness, loving-kindness, His loving-kindness in the skies.

Offertory: Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing arr. Chris Rice Helen Sneller, piano

Sermon Passage: Psalm 1:1–6

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
