Call to Worship: Psalm 99:1–3

The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!

The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.

Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!

Invocation

Hymn 97: We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator Kremser Text: Julia Cady Cory (1902)

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,

in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.

We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you;

we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our fathers, we bless you;

through life's storm and tempest our Guide you have been.

When perils o'ertake us, escape you will make us,

and with your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,

to you, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise.

Your strong arm will guide us, our God is beside us,

to you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: John 8:31–50

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. 38 I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.” 39 They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40 but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” 48 The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50 Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge.

Multilingual Prayer

Hymn 170: Fairest Lord Jesus Crusader's Hymn Text: Münster Gesangbuch (1677)

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, Son of God and Son of Man!

Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor, thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in the blooming garb of spring:

Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, and all the twinkling, starry host:

Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels heav'n can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations! Son of God and Son of Man!

Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and for evermore be thine.

Sermon Passage: Galatians 1:1–5

1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me, 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Sermon: In Defense of the Gospel Dr. Enrique Leal

Hymn: Christ Our Hope In Life and Death Getty

What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone.

What is our only confidence? That our souls to him belong.

Who holds our days within his hand? What comes, apart from his command?

And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ, in which we stand.

(Refrain)

O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal. O sing hallelujah!

Now and ever we confess. Christ our hope in life and death

What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good.

Where is his grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer's blood.

Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial?

Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore? The rock of Christ.(Refrain)

Unto the grave, what will we sing? "Christ, he lives; Christ, he lives!"

And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with him.

There we will rise to meet the Lord, then sin and death will be destroyed,

and we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore. Refrain)

Benediction
