Opening Scripture and Prayer

O Worship the King

O worship the King all-glorious above,
O gratefully sing his pow'r and his love;
our shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

O tell of his might, O sing of his grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

O measureless Might! Ineffable Love!

While angels delight to hymn you above,

the humbler creation, though feeble their lays,

with true adoration shall lisp to your praise.

Prayer of Confession

Lord Christ, when by the power of your Holy Spirit working in us we see you by faith, we behold you as King and Lord of all. All power and glory belong to you, O God, forever and ever! Thank you for sending the Spirit to live in us, and to work in us that which is pleasing in your sight. Increase in us the conviction that we are free from the slavery of sin! O God, we lament that, like the Prodigal Son, we would rather be a servant who earns his keep than a child who freely receives all you have to give us. We are helpless to help ourselves, but too proud to come and lay every sin on you. Make us like the sinful woman who anointed Jesus’ feet, who saw beyond her sin to your glory and grace. High King of heaven, you have won our victory! Give us thankful hearts, that we may truly worship you and give you praise.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 8:1–2

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above, I have a strong and perfect plea,
a great High Priest whose name is Love, who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart.
I know that while in heav’n he stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart,
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look and see him there, who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free;
for God, the just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me,
to look on him and pardon me. (continued on next page)

Behold him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless righteousness,
the great unchangeable I Am, the King of glory and of grace!
One with himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by his blood!
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
with Christ, my Savior and my God.

Scripture Reading: Luke 4:42–5:11

42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, 43 but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea. Luke 5:1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken,
10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

Sermon: The Good News of the Kingdom Dr. Liam Goligher

O Church Arise

O church arise and put your armour on.

Hear the call of Christ our Captain.

For now the weak can say that they are strong,

in the strength that God has given.

With shield of faith and belt of truth,

we'll stand against the devil's lies.

An army bold whose battle cry is Love,

reaching out to those in darkness. (continued on next page)

Our call to war to love the captive soul,

but to rage against the captor.

And with the sword that makes the wounded whole,

we will fight with faith and valour.

When faced with trials on every side,

we know the outcome is secure.

And Christ will have the prize for which He died

an inheritance of nations.

Come see the cross where love and mercy meet,

as the Son of God is stricken.

Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,

for the Conqueror has risen.

And as the stone is rolled away,

and Christ emerges from the grave.

This vict'ry march continues till the day

every eye and heart shall see Him.

So Spirit come, put strength in every stride.

Give grace for every hurdle.

That we may run with faith to win the prize,

of a servant good and faithful.

As saints of old still line the way,

retelling triumphs of His grace.

We hear their calls and hunger for the day,

when with Christ we stand in glory.

Benediction
