Call to Worship

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we have from time to time committed by thought, word, and deed against your divine majesty, provoking most justly your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for our misdoings; they are grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father, for your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that hereafter we may serve and please you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Invocation

Hymn 235: All Glory, Laud, and Honor St. Theodulph

text: Theodulph of Orleans (ca. 820)

All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!
Thou art the King of Israel, thou David’s royal Son,
who in the Lord’s name comest, the King and blessed One!

The people of the Hebrews with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems before thee we present:
to thee, before thy passion, they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.

Thou didst accept their praises; accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest, thou good and gracious King!
All glory, laud, and honor to thee, Redeemer King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!

Responsive Reading: Psalm 133

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Gloria Patri Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Psalm 118:19–26, 28–29 Ellacombe

(In the 11am service, Praisemakers, an interactive music program for ages 4-7, may go to the Catacombs.)

Now open wide the gates for me, the gates of righteousness,
and I will enter in through them; with thanks the Lord I'll bless.
This is the gate that is the Lord's, the righteous enter in.
I'm thankful you have answered me; my Savior you have been. (continued on next page)

That stone is now the cornerstone that builders once despised.
This is the doing of the Lord, and wondrous in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and sing.
Hosanna, Lord! O give success! O Lord, salvation bring!

O blessed is the one who comes, comes in the Lord's great name.
A blessing from the Lord's own house upon you we proclaim.
You are my God, I'll give you thanks; my God, I'll give you praise.
O thank the Lord, for he is good; his love lasts endless days.

Offertory: Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs (11am) George Frideric Handel

Chamber Choir

Scripture Reading: Revelation 4:8–11

8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” 9 And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

Sermon: The High Praises of God Dr. Liam Goligher

Sacrament of the Lord's Supper

The Sursum Corda (Lift up your hearts)

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts!
We lift them up to the Lord!
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
It is right and good and a joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks unto You, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God. Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious Name; evermore praising You, and saying:
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.”

Words of Institution

Partaking of the Bread

Communion Hymn 501: Just As I Am, without One Plea (stanzas 1 and 6) Woodworth

Just as I am, without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, thy love unknown has broken every barrier down;
now, to be thine, yea, thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Partaking of the Cup

Communion Hymn 427: Amidst Us Our Beloved Stands (stanzas 1 and 3) Hamburg

Amidst us our Beloved stands, and bids us view his pierced hands;
points to the wounded feet and side, blest emblems of the Crucified.

If now, with eyes defiled and dim, we see the sings, but see not him;
O may his love the scales displace, and bid us see him face to face!

Proclamation of the Mystery of our Faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!

Hymn: Glory Be to God the Father Regent Square

Text: Horatio Bonar (1808–1889)

Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son,
glory be to God the Spirit, God Almighty, Three in One!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory be to him alone.

Glory be to him who loved us, washed us from all sin and stain!
glory be to him who bought us, made us kings with him to reign!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb that once was slain!

Glory to the King of angels, glory to the church’s King,
glory to the King of nations; heav'n and earth your praises bring!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! To the King of glory sing!

"Glory, blessing, praise eternal!" Thus the choir of angels sings.
"Honor, glory, power, dominion!" Thus its praise creation brings.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the mighty King of kings!
