Welcome and Preparation for Worship

Prelude: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik: Romanza Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Tom Jackson, violin; Helen Sneller, clarinet; Bob Yang, piano

Call to Worship: Psalm 57:7–11

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!
Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

Doxology Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Hymn 7: From All That Dwell below the Skies Duke Street

text: Isaac Watts (1719)

From all that dwell below the skies
let the Creator’s praise arise;
let the Redeemer’s name be sung
through every land, by every tongue.

In every land begin the song;
to every land the strains belong.
In cheerful sound all voices raise
and fill the world with joyful praise.

Eternal are your mercies, Lord;
eternal truth attends your word.
Your praise shall sound from shore to shore
till suns rise and set no more.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: John 4:46–54

46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” 49 The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household. 54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

Hymn 462: Grace! Tis a Charming Sound St. Michael

text: Philip Doddridge (1755)

Grace! 'tis a charming sound,
harmonious to my ear;
heav'n with the echo shall resound,
and all the earth shall hear.

Grace first contrived a way
to save rebellious man,
and all the steps that grace display
which drew the wondrous plan.

Grace taught my wand'ring feet
to tread the heav'nly road
and new supplies each hour I meet
while pressing on to God.

Grace all the work shall crown
through everlasting days;
it lays in heav'n the topmost stone,
and well deserves the praise.

Sermon Passage: Ephesians 2:1–10

1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Hymn: The Lord Is My Salvation Keith Getty/Kristyn Getty/Nathan Nockels/Jonas Myrin (2016)

The grace of God has reached for me, and pulled me from the raging sea.
And I am safe on this solid ground: the Lord is my salvation.

I will not fear when darkness falls, his strength will help me scale these walls.
I'll see the dawn of the rising sun: the Lord is my salvation.

Who is like the Lord our God? Strong to save, faithful in love.
My debt is paid and the victory won: the Lord is my salvation.

My hope is hidden in the Lord, he flow'rs each promise of his Word.
When winter fades, I know spring will come: the Lord is my salvation.

In times of waiting, times of need, when I know loss, when I am weak.
I know his grace will renew these days: the Lord is my salvation.

Who is like the Lord our God? Strong to save, faithful in love.
My debt is paid and the victory won: the Lord is my salvation.

And when I reach the final day, he will not leave me in the grave.
But I will rise, he will call me home: the Lord is my salvation.

Who is like the Lord our God? Strong to save, faithful in love.
My debt is paid and the victory won: the Lord is my salvation.

Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit, the Lord is our salvation.
Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit, the Lord is our salvation.
The Lord is our salvation, the Lord is our salvation.
