Prelude: Adagio in E Major Frank Bridge

Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 97: We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator Kremser

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you;
we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our fathers, we bless you;
through life’s storm and tempest our Guide you have been.
When perils o’ertake us, escape you will make us,
and with your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,
to you, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise.
Your strong arm will guide us, our God is beside us,
to you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.

Prayer of Confession

O God, we are hard-pressed by the evils of this world. Wickedness and temptations surround us. Our minds are constantly attacked by unrighteous speech. We lament our sinful condition, and lay our weakness before you. Apart from your saving grace, we are unable in ourselves to discern right from wrong. Without your Word, without your Holy Spirit, we are helpless to help ourselves. Be merciful to us, O God, and save us from our sin. Thank you that in Christ we may be crucified to the world, and the world to us. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Doxology Tallis’ Canon

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Illumination

Scripture Reading: Jude 3–4

3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Hymn 644: May the Mind of Christ My Savior St. Leonards

May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day,
by his love and pow’r controlling all I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph only through his pow’r.

May the peace of God my Father rule my life in everything,
that I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me as the waters fill the sea;
him exalting, self abasing, this is victory.

May his beauty rest upon me as I seek the lost to win,
and may they forget the channel, seeing only him.

Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 39

Question: What is the duty which God requires of man?

Sermon: Our Common Salvation Dr. Liam Goligher

Hymn 353: I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord St. Thomas

I love thy kingdom, Lord, the house of thine abode,
the church our blest Redeemer saved with his own precious blood.

I love thy church, O God: her walls before thee stand,
dear as the apple of thine eye, and graven on thy hand.

For her my tears shall fall, for her my prayers ascend;
to her my cares and toils be giv’n, till toils and cares shall end.

Beyond my highest joy I prize her heav’nly ways,
her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise.

Jesus, thou Friend divine, Our Savior and our King,
thy hand from ev’ry snare and foe shall great deliv’rance bring.

Sure as thy truth shall last, to Zion shall be giv’n
the brightest glories earth can yield, and brighter bliss of heav’n.

Benediction
