Prelude: Deck Thyself, My Soul, with Gladness Johannes Brahms

Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 38: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise St. Denio

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render; O help us to see
‘tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!

Prayer of Confession

Righteous Father, if you would mark iniquities, how could we stand before you? Even as we open our mouths to praise you, we realize our tongues are a restless evil, a deadly poison, full of unrighteousness. Our very words often reveal the truth of what is inside us; we are proud sinners, unmerciful, unkind, and ungracious towards others, promoting ourselves. We lament how our words damage relationships, divide your Church, and defame your great name before a watching world. Lord, have mercy upon us, and grant that the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts would be increasingly pleasing in your sight, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Ephesians 2:4–6

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Doxology Tallis’ Canon

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:18–20

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Hymn 170: Fairest Lord Jesus Crusader’s Hymn

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor,
thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight,
and all the twinkling, starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heav’n can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
now and for evermore be thine.

Benediction
