Prelude: Children of the Heavenly Father arr. Dale Wood

Call to Worship

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty, everlasting God and Father, we acknowledge and confess that we indeed were conceived and born in sin and, therefore, inclined to all evil and slow to all good; that we unceasingly transgress your holy commandments, and corrupt ourselves. But we are sorry for this and desire your grace and help. Therefore, have mercy upon us, most gracious and merciful God and Father, through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Grant to us and increase in us your Holy Spirit, so that we may recognize our sin and unrighteousness from the depth of our heart, feel true contrition and grief for them, die to them completely, and please you wholly in a new, godly life. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Invocation

Hymn 97: We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator Kremser

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you, we kneel and adore you;
we bless your holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our fathers, we bless you;
through life’s storm and tempest our Guide you have been.
When perils o’ertake us, escape you will make us,
and with your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,
to you, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise.
Your strong arm will guide us, our God is beside us,
to you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.

Responsive Reading: Psalm 119:1–16

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!
You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.
Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.
In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

Gloria Patri Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Psalm 5 Aberystwyth

Hear my words, O Lord my God; listen to my sighs and groans.
Hear my cry, my king, my God, I will pray to you alone.
When the morning comes, O Lord, you shall hear my pleading cries;
I will watch when comes the dawn; I will bring my sacrifice.

Surely you are not a God who in evil takes delight;
evil shall not dwell with you, nor the proud stand in your sight.
Evildoers, Lord, you hate; lying ones will you lay waste.
Men who murder and deceive, God, the Lord, abhors and hates.

But in your great love will I come into your house of grace.
Rev’rent, I will worship there, bowing toward your holy place.
Guide me safely, O my Lord, in your perfect righteousness;
since my enemies are near, make straight paths before my face.

Not one word they say is true; from their heart destruction comes;
and their throats are open graves, yet they flatter with their tongues.
Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them by their counsels fall;
snare them in the schemes they plan, for against you they rebel.

Let all those who flee to you find their refuge and be glad.
Let them ever sing for joy, ever them protection spread.
Those who truly love your name magnify you with their praise.
You will bless the righteous, Lord, shielding him with all your grace.

Offertory: Be Calm and Peaceful (11am) J.S. Bach/arr. George Kemmer

Chamber Choir

Be calm and peaceful and trust in God, on his bounteous love relying. In him true peace abides, without him vain is striving. He is our Friend and Guide, our Savior, who leads to life eternal. In him is true peace. He knows our needs and will comfort us when we ask his guidance. Trust, and no ills o’erwhelm thee: always in his love believing. He is our hope, our strength, life giver, who leads us on to the perfect life. In him is true peace.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 96

Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth! 2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6 splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! 8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; ring an offering, and come into his courts! 9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth! 10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.” 11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 12 let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 13 before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Sermon: The Splendor of the King Dr. Liam Goligher

Hymn 300: Blessing and Honor and Glory and Power O Quanta Qualia

Blessing and honor and glory and power,
wisdom and riches and strength evermore
give ye to him who our battle hath won,
whose are the kingdom, the crown, and the throne.

Soundeth the heav’n of the heav’ns with his name;
ringeth the earth with his glory and fame;
oceans and mountain, stream, forest, and flower
echo his praises and tell of his power.

Ever ascendeth the song and the joy;
ever descendeth the love from on high;
blessing and honor and glory and praise —
this is the theme of the hymns that we raise.

Give we the glory and praise to the Lamb;
take we the robe and the harp and the palm;
sing we the song of the Lamb that was slain,
dying in weakness, but rising to reign.
