Welcome and Preparation for Worship

Prelude: Air Antonio Lotti

Call to Worship: Psalm 47:1–4

Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Invocation

Hymn 44: How Great Thou Art O Store Gud

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed.

(Refrain)
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; (Refrain)

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin. (Refrain)

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, my God, how great thou art. (Refrain)

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn: Before the Throne of God Above Before The Throne

Before the throne of God above, I have a strong and perfect plea,
a great High Priest whose name is Love, who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart.
I know that while in heav’n he stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart,
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look and see him there, who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free;
for God, the just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me,
to look on him and pardon me.

Behold him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless righteousness,
the great unchangeable I Am, the King of glory and of grace!
One with himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by his blood!
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
with Christ, my Savior and my God.

Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Sermon: Mourning with Hope Dr. Enrique Leal

Hymn: Christ Our Hope in Life and Death Christ Our Hope

What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone!
What is our only confidence? That our souls to him belong.
Who holds our days within his hand, what comes, apart from his command,
And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ in which we stand.

Refrain
O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal;
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confess: Christ our hope in life and death.

What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good.
Where is his grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood.
Who holds our faith when fears arise, who stands above the stormy trial,
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore? The rock of Christ. (Refrain)

Unto the grave what shall we sing? Christ he lives, Christ he lives!
And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with him.
There we will rise to meet the Lord, then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore. (Refrain)

Benediction
