Hymn 173: Praise Him! Praise Him! Joyful Song

Prayer of Confession

O God, our hearts are restless within us; help us to find our rest in you. True blessing can only come from you, yet we seek happiness in so many other things. We mistake material prosperity for your favor, and often harbor feelings of entitlement. Discontent marks our lives; little things make us irritable and hard to live with. We envy others and covet their belongings, jobs, or status. We confess in all of this our lack of faith and trust in you. Please forgive us, and give us grateful hearts, for the sake of Christ, who is our peace. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 8:31–32

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 732) Tallis’ Canon

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Prayer of Illumination (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offering Prayer

Offertory: Canticle of Praise John Ness Beck

As a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembreth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth, for the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting to them that fear him, to such as keep his covenants. The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom ruleth over all. Praise ye the Lord from the heavens! Praise him in the heights! Praise ye him, all his angels, praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon, praise Him, all ye stars of light. Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: fire and hail; snow and vapors; stormy wind fulfilling his word! Kings of the earth, and all people, princes and all judges of the earth, young men and maidens, old men and children, let them praise the name of the Lord! For his name alone is excellent, his glory is above the earth and heaven. Praise ye the Lord!
