Invocation

Hymn 77: Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven Andrews

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, we confess our lives abound in sinful desires and transgressions of your holy law. Our consciences testify we are guilty before you and worthy of your just judgment. Merciful Father, grant that we may so embrace your infinite mercy that we may not doubt your wrath will be turned from us, and yet not abuse this privilege by taking liberty to sin. Help us in true humility to daily flee to your mercy, that we may be sustained and kept in safety until that day when we come to that eternal inheritance that has been obtained for us by the blood of your only begotten Son. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Micah 7:18–19

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Doxology 733 Lasst Uns Erfreuen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; alleluia, alleluia!
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Confession of Faith: Westminster Larger Catechism Question 52

Question: How was Christ exalted in his resurrection?
Answer: Christ was exalted in his resurrection, in that, not having seen corruption in death (of which it was not possible for him to be held) and having the very same body in which he suffered, with the essential properties thereof (but without mortality and other common infirmities belonging to this life) really united to his soul, he rose again from the dead the third day by his own power; whereby he declared himself to be the Son of God, to have satisfied divine justice, to have vanquished death, and him that had the power of it, and to be Lord of quick and dead: all which he did as a public person, the head of his church, for their justification, quickening in grace, support against enemies, and to assure them of their resurrection from the dead at the last day.
