Invocation

Hymn 122: God, All Nature Sings Thy Glory Ode To Joy

Prayer of Confession

Our Father in heaven, the Scriptures tell us to flee temptation, and yet we admit before you our fascination with evil. We have a propensity to be allured by things which are shocking, controversial, dangerous, or simply by things forbidden. We often test you, stretching boundaries laid down by your precepts, and manipulating your Word to accommodate our actions. Loving Father, take away our roving eyes and ears and deliver us from evil. Please make us like our Elder Brother, the Lord Jesus, who, when tempted, even forsook his daily bread to be fed and guarded by your Word. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Hebrews 2:14–15, 18

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 732) Tallis’ Canon

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Prayer of Illumination (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
