Alleluia! Sing to Jesus arr. Mark Hayes

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the scepter, his the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood. Jesus, out of every nation, has redeemed us by his blood. Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now. Alleluia! He is near us; faith believes, nor questions how, though the clouds from sight received him when the forty days were o’er. Shall our hearts forget his promise: “I am with you evermore”? Alleluia! Bread of Heaven, you on earth our food and stay! Alleluia! Here the sinful flee to you from day to day. Intercessor, friend of sinners, earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.

A Time for Everything (based on Ecclesiastes 3:1–8) Mark Hayes

Call to Worship

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 731) Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

O Lord God, when we hear your command to love you with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, we recognize that our love for you is a diluted love, watered down by countless other loyalties and affections. We sin by not ascribing the glory due your great name, and by devoting ourselves excessively to other beloved objects: our jobs, our leisure, power, money, children, causes, or fame. O God, forgive our folly and turn our hearts to you again! Grant us strength to comprehend what is the breadth and length and height and depth of your love for us in Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Colossians 1:13–14

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Invocation

Gloria Patri (Trinity Hymnal 734) Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
