Prelude: Canon in B Robert Schumann

Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 302: Come, Christians, Join to Sing Madrid

Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. And we are capable of far more had it not been for your restraining hand upon us. Our sins seem like an irrational rebellion against all that is good and noble, a lawless pattern of putting ourselves first and avoiding submission to your authority and guidance. Forgive us, O Lord, and grant us grace to turn from these wicked ways and follow you with all our heart. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Doxology 732 Tallis' Canon

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Offertory: There Is a Green Hill Far Away Bob Chilcott
Tenth Church Choir
Nathaniel Fletcher, conductor

There is a green hill far away, without a city wall, where the dear Lord was crucified, who died to save us all. We may not know, we cannot tell, what pains he had to bear, but we believe it was for us He hung and suffered there. He died that we might be forgiv’n, He died to make us good, that we might go at last to heav’n, saved by his precious blood, saved by his precious blood. O dearly, dearly has he loved, and we must love Him too, and trust in his redeeming blood, and try his works to do.

Question of Preparation: Westminster Shorter Catechism, question 26

Question: How does Christ execute the office of a king?
Answer: Christ executes the office of a king, in subduing us to himself, in ruling and defending us, and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies.
