Prayer of Confession

Turn us, good Lord, and so shall we be turned. Be favorable, O Lord, be favorable to your people, who turn to you in repentance and prayer. For you are a merciful God, full of compassion, long-suffering, and of great pity. You spare when we deserve punishment, and in your wrath think upon mercy. Spare your people, good Lord, spare them, and let not your heritage be brought to confusion. Hear us, O Lord, for your mercy is great, and after the multitude of your mercies look upon us, through the merits and mediation of your blessed Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Question: How is the grace of God manifested in the second covenant?
Answer: The grace of God is manifested in the second covenant, in that he freely provides and offers to sinners a Mediator, and life and salvation by him; and, requiring faith as the condition to interest them in him, promises and gives his Holy Spirit to all his elect, to work in them that faith, with all other saving graces; and to enable them unto all holy obedience, as the evidence of the truth of their faith and thankfulness to God, and as the way which he has appointed them to salvation.
