Prelude

Lord Christ, the Only Son of God Dietrich Buxtehude

Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God the Father from eternity, sprung from his heart, as it stands written: He is the morning star, who makes his radiance shine far beyond all other stars.

Let All Things Now Living (Trinity Hymnal 125) arr. Dale Wood

Call to Worship

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 731) Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Our God and Father, we praise you that your mercies are new every morning; great is your faithfulness! We confess that we are daily in need of your grace, for sin clings so closely that we can hardly do anything from a pure heart. We need your Holy Spirit to sanctify us by your Word and keep us from all manner of temptation and evil. Grant us the assurance that in Christ we are no longer slaves to sin, and that in him we are new creations. Lord, have mercy upon us, for the sake of your dear Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 6:13–14

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Gloria Patri (Trinity Hymnal 734) Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offertory: Be Still arr. Ashley Grote

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here. Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear. In him so sin is found, we stand on holy ground. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.
