Prelude: O Worship the King arr. James Curnow/Smith
Nicaea Brass
Call to Worship
Doxology Old Hundredth
Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
Our Father, you are the God of comfort and of peace. We praise you for redeeming us from the misery and dominion of our sin. Yet, our God, we confess that we are often more filled with fear than trust, pessimism than faith, sorrow than joy. We look to the resources of this world and the imaginations of our own hearts to fill the emptiness and relieve the sadness in our lives. Teach us, O Lord, that we cannot have peace and joy without your Holy Spirit any more than we can have life without breath. Loving Father, show us how those who hunger and thirst for righteousness can be satisfied; that those who mourn receive true comfort; that those who are poor in spirit or even persecuted for righteousness’ sake might possess the blessings of the kingdom of heaven. May your Spirit indeed grant us the fruit of joy in abundance, for the sake of the One who for the joy set before him endured the cross for us and our salvation. Amen.
The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Colossians 1:13–14
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Invocation
Hymn 100: Holy, Holy, Holy! Nicaea
Responsive Reading: Psalm 134 (pew Bible p. 519)
Gloria Patri Meineke
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
Apostles' Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
