Prelude: Meditation on "Thaxted" Charles Callahan

Call to Worship

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Most holy and merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess in your presence our sinful nature that is prone to do evil and slow to do good, and all our shortcomings and offenses against you. You alone know how often we have sinned, in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, we who are ashamed and sorry for every way that we have displeased you. Teach us to hate our errors; cleanse us from our secret faults; and forgive our sins, for the sake of your dear Son our Savior. And, O most holy and loving Father, send your purifying grace into our hearts, we pray, that we may from now on live in your light and walk in your ways, according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Colossians 1:13–14

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Invocation

Hymn 38: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise Joanna

Responsive Reading: Psalm 131 (pew Bible p. 519)

Gloria Patri Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the
communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
