Hymn 111: This Is My Father’s World Terra Beata

Prayer of Confession

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love. Our sin has been against You, although others have been hurt as well. It is against You that we have rebelled. It is against You that we have been angry – and yet it is to you that we cry for mercy! Even with our best intentions sin seems ever to creep in. Even with our firmest resolve we keep on sinning. Wash us, that we may be clean, fresh, and new. Cleanse us, that we have integrity, that we do right from inside out. Purge us, so we may be pure with a strong purity. In the name of Christ deliver us, O God of our salvation, and our tongues will sing aloud of Your deliverance. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: 1 John 3:2–3

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 732) Tallis’ Canon

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Prayer of Illumination (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offering Prayer

Offertory: Death Shall Not Destroy arr. Alice Parker/Robert Shaw

Death shall not destroy my comfort, Christ shall lead me through the gloom. Down he’ll send some heavenly convoy to escort my spirit home. O Hallelujah, how I love my Savior, O Hallelujah, yes, I do; O Hallelujah, how I love my Savior, mourners, you can love him too. Jordan’s stream shall not o’erflow me, while my Savior’s by my side, Canaan, Canaan lies before me, soon I’ll cross the swelling tide. See the happy spirits waiting, on the banks beyond the stream, sweet responses still repeating, Jesus, Jesus is their theme.
