Invocation

Hymn 290: Hail the Day That Sees Him Rise Llanfair

Prayer of Confession

We praise you, O God of light, that in you there is no darkness at all. We are your children; help us to walk as children of the light. Illumine our lives with your Word of truth, that we might know ourselves and see our great need for you. Father, we confess before you and in the presence of one another those things which you alone can see; the chambers of our hearts where we keep our secret past, the part of us which nurtures sinful desire, the pride that shields us from being really honest with you and with one another. We are afraid to be seen as we really are, and yet, O God, you know us through and through. Have mercy on us, O God, and be pleased to help us through Jesus our Savior and Light, who came to rescue us from the darkness. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 4:24–25

Righteousness will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper will be observed at the 6:30pm service next Sunday, May 19.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism reminds us of the importance of coming to the Lord's Table in a worthy manner:

It is required of them that would worthily partake of the Lord's Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, of their faith to feed upon him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience; lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves. (Shorter Catechism, Answer 97)

Suggested Bible passages for preparation: Psalm 23, John 6:22–40, 1 Corinthians 11:17–32
