Call to Worship

Doxology Old Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your unfailing love. According to Your great compassion, blot out our transgressions. Wash away all our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. Against You, You only, have we sinned and done what is evil in Your sight. Wash us, that we may be whiter than snow, for a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Restore us to fellowship with You, that we may walk in the full assurance of Your promises, and in the freedom of knowing that You care for us and have brought us to Yourself by the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose strong name we pray. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Invocation

Hymn 176: Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus! In Babilone

Responsive Reading: Psalm 83 (pew Bible p. 492)

Gloria Patri Meineke

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession (concluding with The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offertory: Sing Praise to God arr. Mark Hijleh

Suzannah Waddington, soprano

Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation, the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation; with healing balm my soul He fills, and every faithless murmer stills: to God all praise and glory. What God's almighty power hath made, His gracious mercy keepeth; by morning glow or evening shade His watchful eye ne'er sleepeth; within the kingdom of His might, lo! all is just and all is right: to God all praise and glory! The Lord is never far away, but, though all grief distressing, an ever present help and stay, our peace and joy and blessing; as with a mother's tender hand, He leads His own, His chosen band: to God all praise and glory! Thus, all my toilsome way along, I sing aloud Thy praises, that all may hear the grateful song my voice unwearied raises; be joyful in the Lord, my heart, both soul and body bear your part: to God all praise and glory!

The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper will be observed at all services next Sunday, August 6.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism reminds us of the importance of coming to the Lord's Table in a worthy manner:

It is required of them that would worthily partake of the Lord's Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord's body, of their faith to feed upon Him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience; lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves. (Shorter Catechism, Answer 97)

Suggested Bible passages for preparation: Psalm 23, Luke 22:14–23, John 4:7–14, 1 Cor. 11:17–32
