Soli Deo Gloria: Hymn Sing (The congregation will choose hymns from the Trinity Hymnal)

Call to Worship

Invocation

Hymn 521: My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less Solid Rock

Prayer of Confession

Righteous Father, we praise you that Christ is the solid rock on which we stand. We desire no other foundation, and know of no one else upon whom we can surely depend. Yet, our Father, we confess that our loyalty is so often divided. We try to serve both you and money; we say we love you yet cling to the world’s values; we take care of ourselves but ignore our neighbors. In your mercy take away our hypocrisy. May your Spirit work love into our hearts, so we might devote ourselves fully to you and your purposes for our lives. Amen.

The Gospel’s Assurance of Pardon: Ephesians 2:8–9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 732) Tallis’ Canon

Question of Preparation (from the Heidelberg Catechism, 32; congregation reads answer in unison)

Question: Why are you called a Christian?

Answer: Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity.
